Molly O'Connor

Hello! I’m Molly O'Connor, a licensed Cosmetologist & Barber working and growing at Studio Siubar. I’ve been living my dream and building my career here since March 2024.

Growing up in my dad’s salon ignited my passion for beauty. I truly love helping people feel fantastic inside and out!

I grew up in Orange County, CA, and after studying Communications at San Jose State University, I moved down to beautiful San Diego in the summer of 2022. I graduated from beauty school in December 2023 and I’m thrilled to have this opportunity with Serena to continue my education as I refine my craft.

My big dream? To open my own cozy salon one day. :)

Fun fact about me: In another universe, I’d be a skydiving instructor exploring the world!

Hello again! Serena here. :) I will catch you up from the beginning.
My Work with hair began in high school through trial and error. I learned the possibilities and boundaries of working with this fun fabric we all can wear in some fashion. I’ve always enjoyed creating transformations and beauty practices. I've also spent my lifetime being extremely social and devoted to my relationships.
I was persuaded to enroll at Palomar Institute of Cosmetology with some of my close friends after HS graduation. We had such a fun time being creative & encouraged each other to keep going!

I received my license in 2009 and found my home at Ubuntu Hair Studio in Solana Beach from 2010-2019. Thanks to my mentors I became a French Balayage Specialist, working with L’Oreal Professionnel Color. I have been working with Neuma Beauty and Milbon products consistently since the beginning as well. My cutting mentors were all of Vidal Sassoon lineage, so my shaping skills are British. My California coastal nature is to create soft, natural, sustainable hair care rituals for all my trusting, loyal people!

I continually choose to work in alignment with my values. I care for the earth, my fellow humans around the globe and my community. It can be a delicate balance to keep while running a business and home in this modern day. I am committed to being curious, willing to listen, learn and evolve. At my core, I just want to be loved and show love. Running a hair salon has been a super fun, meaningful way to share the love!

The Story
of our
Little Blue Bungalow

Tucked away from the busy 101 of Downtown Encinitas, this bungalow is my vision come to life: a peaceful place to hang out and care for your hair's health and beauty. I see it  as an inviting space that nurtures the heart of community & light of spirit. Those two things inspire my future visions while for now, the Little Blue Bungalow is what we call Siubar's home.
             xo, Serena

After one decade of building my career in Solana Beach with Ubuntu Hair Studio, in 2019 it came time to relocate and nurture my own vision. I honor my roots that Ubuntu helped nourish so I could blossom. I had the opportunity to setup shop just 2.5 miles North in Encinitas and settle into a private salon suite. InStyle Salons served as a great landing place and cocoon for transformation. In 2020, our pandemic survival skills were tested. Suddenly during the 2nd shutdown of COVID, our neighbors left their space, leaving an old barber shop as a blank canvas to further express the Siubar vision. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to provide some outdoor space, air, natural light and privacy which all support the changing times and needs of the people.
